Welcome to Frugal Friday! Making your own pie crust is a great way to save money while also enjoying a delicious homemade treat. Here's a simple recipe for a classic pie crust that you can use for all of your favorite pies.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup shortening or lard
3 to 4 Tbsp cold water
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, and salt until well combined.
Add the shortening or lard to the bowl and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the water to the mixture and stir until it starts to come together. Add more water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a ball.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before rolling out and using.

Tips:
If you don't have a pastry cutter, you can use two knives or your fingers to cut the shortening or lard into the flour mixture.
Don't overwork the dough or it will become tough.
This recipe makes enough dough for one crust pie.
Enjoy your homemade pie crust and happy baking!
