Fruit Press for Wine Making
This year for my birthday, my husband bought me a fruit press to use in my wine making. At first I was skeptical that it could make a difference. Boy, was I wrong! I actually love it. I get so much more juice out of the fruit and the wine taste so much more richer! A fruit press is a device that is used to extract juice from fruit in the wine making process.
If you need help in choosing a wine press, read this article https://eckraus.com/using-a-wine-press/. It will tell you what information to consider before choosing a fruit press for making wine along with when to use the wine press.
In the past, I crushed the fruit to make wine. To help soften the fruit before crushing, I would freeze it first. Freezing fruit before making wine helps to maximize the amount of juice I can extract from the fruit. The cell walls within the fruit breaks down or rupture when they are frozen. When the frozen fruit is brought back to room temperature it becomes soft, which makes it much easier to press juice out of the fruit.
I still freeze the fruit to help maximize the amount of juice I get, but the wine press can just squeeze more juice out, by its sheer force than I ever could. You will be amazed by using a wine press!
Here is a video that shows how to use a wine press.

Another added benefit of the wine press is that it is oddly similar to a cheese press. I believe I will use my wine press as a cheese press to extract all of that beautiful whey! Well, that is a topic for another day.
Have a happy homemade wine making day and happy homesteading!
