Fresh Mint Leaf in Our Morning Coffee
The only reason we can even get out of bed in the mornings is knowing we have hot freshly ground coffee waiting for us. We love the taste, the aroma, and the warmth of a good tasting hot coffee.
We also know herbs are good for us. Mint is a popular herb and so easy to grow. We have it growing in containers right outside our back door close to the kitchen to give us easy access to add it to our cooking. One of our favorite mint recipes is mint tea. You can find the recipe here at https://thetexaspioneerwoman.blogspot.com/2016/01/how-to-make-mint-tea.html?q=mint.
Not only is mint delicious, but also serves the needs of our general health maintenance and any acute issues that may arise. Mint offers a wide range of antioxidants and is known to help people who have irritable bowel syndrome, to cure headaches and soothe sore throats. You can read more about the health benefits of mint here at https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/mint-benefits.
So, one morning we thought, "Why not combine the two ingredients". Before we add the mint to our coffee cup we scrunch it up in our hand, so it is easier to release the flavor. Then we pour hot coffee right over the mint leaf. The mint flavor adds a soft refreshing taste to the coffee, plus we get the added health benefits from the mint!
