Simple Wheat Butter Rolls

These simple wheat butter rolls have a crispy, buttery crust.


2 1/4 teaspoon yeast
1 1/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
2 cups wheat flour
2 cups all purpose flour
melted butter


Add yeast to a bowl.

Add water and butter in a microwaveable container and microwave until butter melts.

 Stir in sugar and salt.

Let cool to lukewarm and add egg.

Add mixture to yeast in bowl and mix.

Add 2 cups of wheat flour and mix with wooden spoon or a mixer.

Add 2 cups of all purpose flour and knead in mixer or by hand.

Grease dough and return to bowl.

Cover bowl with clean cloth and set in warm place to rise. Rising process can take 1 to 1 and a half hours.

When dough doubles in size it is ready for the next step.

Dust top of rolling board with flour.

Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Use a biscuit cutter or a tin can to cut out rolls.

Place rolls on greased baking sheet.

Cover with clean cloth and let rise till double in size about 45 minutes.

When doubled in size, place in 350 Fahrenheit degree oven and cook until tops brown.

Brush with melted butter and serve warm.
