Homemade Herb Butter

Making butter is a great activity for kids in the kitchen. It is especially memorable to do it around the holidays. We still do it in my house even though my kids are now grown.

After you make the homemade butter you can do several different things to make it even more special. One idea I like to do is to make an herb butter. 
Homemade Herb Butter


How to Make Herb Butter
¼ pound of homemade butter at room temperature
¼ teaspoon of minced garlic
1 tablespoon of any fresh herbs 
Salt to taste (optional)

Whip the butter with a hand mixer until it is light and creamy. If you are using freshly made butter you will not need to whip it. Once the butter is softened, add the minced garlic and fresh herbs. You can use any fresh herbs that are growing in your garden. I have made herb butter with rosemary, oregano, thyme, sage and basil. You can just use only 1 type of herb or a mixture of herbs. Enjoy trying this recipe and tweaking it to fit your taste buds!

Uses for Herb Butter

Fresh herb butter can be spread on freshly roasted corn on the cob. You can also use it on any cooked vegetables, fish, shrimp, pork and steak. In addition, I love spreading it on fresh out of the oven bread or crackers. You can use it in any recipe calling for butter to give your dishes an extra savory taste.
